    About Us

Welcome to St. Constantine’s International School

St Constantine’s International School is a co-educational, day and boarding, British-style, international school, with a roll of 580 students (including 75 boarders) from over 30 different countries.

Founded in 1952 by the Greek immigrant community that originally settled in East Africa in the 1920s and 1930s, the school’s original classrooms were next to the town’s only Greek Orthodox Church. Though our school is secular and non-denominational, welcoming pupils from every religion and culture, the church itself still exists as part of our 35-acre campus and holds services every Sunday morning for the local community.

The Greek community prospered in agriculture, mining and business, and sent their children to board at St Constantine’s International where they could get instruction in Greek language, culture and religion. By the mid-1960s, however, it had evolved into an English-medium school and, in 1998, adopted the famous Cambridge International Curriculum.

From its humble conception, St Constantine’s is renowned for both our sports and academic achievements. Owned and governed by the Hellenic Foundation of Tanzania, the school continues to contribute to the country which welcomed their ancestors over 90 years ago. Proud of its Greek heritage and its international quality education, St Constantine’s is looking into a very bright future educating the country’s – and the African continent’s – future leaders.

With its 70th anniversary approaching in 2022, it is the oldest international school in Tanzania – now the largest international school in northern Tanzania – and it continues to grow and expand.

    Admissions Policy

    Rationale

While any school can ensure good academic performance through selection and filtering policies based on intellectual skills, SCIS is interested in serving a large and diverse population through a comprehensive educational model that seeks to meet the needs of its members and follows the school’s mission, vision and values. This characteristic of being a learning community that strives to involve all members in the educational process is of utmost importance. The aim of this policy is to set the criteria for admission to SCIS.

    Objectives and Principles

    ● To ensure that admission is offered only to students who will benefit from the normal offering. ● The following criteria should be considered:

o One parent/guardian can communicate in English.
    o Previous school records.
o Willingness and ability for family to meet financial commitments (acknowledging that the

school retains the right to increase the fees as appropriate).
o Willingness to comply with school policies.
o Willingness to uphold and promote the school’s values, mission and vision.

    ● To gain sufficient information about the student on entry, so that the teaching staff are able to prepare adequately to provide for them.
    ● To gain sufficient information about the student and family on entry, so that a ‘fit’ to SCIS is possible. ● To admit students that the school is able to provide for, using international best practice and existing systems and structures.
    ● To maintain the diversity and richness of cultures and traditions in the school.
    ● To maintain the values, vision and mission of the school.
    ● To maintain steady enrollment.
    ● Admissions is a rolling and continuous process due to some of our mobile international expatriate community.
    ● The diversity within the school population should be considered an asset and a rich resource, and not as an obstacle.
    ● Priority in admission to SCIS is given to (in order of priority):

    o Expatriate families. o Siblings.
    o Alumni.

    ● On applying to the school, the learning needs of a student should not be sufficient grounds for not accepting him/her, provided the school can fulfill these needs, using existing systems and structures.
    ● The family must be flexible and willing to participate in community activities. They should contribute actively and willingly to the life of the school.

    ● The student and the family must be open to interact with people of different nationalities, religions and cultures in a truly international setting.
    ● The Headteacher, alongside his management team, will be responsible for judging in each case whether or not the school can make adequate provision for the child’s needs.

    ● The Headteacher will be responsible for making the final decision for all applications.
